Saamanjasya ’10, a novel concept, is being organized by Vinod Gupta School of Management, IIT Kharagpur in the third week of March 2010. The aim of the event is to bring together Corporates and NGO’s on a common platform to ensure inclusive growth and inculcate a culture of “Giving back to the society” in the youth.
Art is a vehicle for expression or communication of emotions and ideas, a means for exploring and appreciating the world around you. Art has evolved almost since the time civilizations were established. Even before man learnt language, he expressed his ideas in various art forms like the cave paintings.
The ancient Egyptian and Chinese cultures or the Harappa-Mohenjo-Daro civilizations come to life when we see the remains of sculptures, paintings or the ornaments representing the respective eras. Though the entire civilizations vanished, their art-forms have stories to tell; these art-forms have made their civilizations immortal. The paintings of Michelangelo, Leonardo Vinci are still liked by present generations even after a century. The importance of art has been realized centuries ago. Great rulers of the world, including Alexander the great from Rome to Akbar, who ruled most of ancient India had numerous artists creating, performing or trading art. The great kings personally appreciated their art and the artists were handsomely paid for their skills.
India with its vast cultural diversity has equally vast plethora of art forms. Some of these are known globally, while some of them have even become extinct due to lack of followers. This is why the students at VGSOM have decided to come up with an initiative to preserve local art by giving this art a wider platform for acceptance and sustenance.
Kalakaar Vikaas is a unique event organized by team Shraddha to create a bridge between the corporate and local artisans. Shraddha is a CSR wing of VGSoM.Team Shraddha has always worked towards inclusion of socially under-privileged. If the modern art by some famous contemporary artists can sell for lakhs of rupees, then Indian art lovers can definitely spend a few hundreds to appreciate the efforts and skills of traditional artists for whom their art is their passion and also the means of survival.
Kalakaar Vikaas provides a platform to showcase the art, craft and culture of Bengal to rest of India. Kalakaar Vikaas is an exhibit where the guests and participants of Samanjasya can view in person, some very unique and traditional art forms from nooks and corners of Bengal. We are sure that everyone will love and appreciate the artwork and promote it back in their home-town. We hope that this event helps promoting Bengali art, tradition and culture to rest of India. Our corporate guests can provide a commercial platform to the local artists and help create a source of regular and sustainable income for this much needy community.
